Location and Infrastructure
Dr B. R. Ambedkar Medical College & Hospital (BRAMC) is located in a north-eastern area of Bangalore-Kadugondanahalli popularly known as KG Halli. BMTC buses to prime areas like Majestic & Shivajinagar are easily available but for other areas, students have to change buses at one of the depots.
In May 1987, the college moved to its own campus at Kadugondanahalli. The college has an elegant and imposing building with beautiful architectural designs which attracts the attention of all visitors.
It is well planned and accommodates the administrative block, trust office, central library, pre-clinical and para-clinical departments, and sports section. There is a modern OPD Block with clinical departments attached for teaching and research with an auditorium and a cultural department. A hospital with 600 beds is also situated on the campus.
Hostel and Other Facilities
The college provides hostels for boys as well as girls. The hostels are well maintained and the food is good. Students actively participate in deciding menus for all the meals, keep a check on taste & quality and divide the expenses at the end of each month equally among them. Occasionally there is water shortage in the college, hospital and both the hostels.
All basic facilities such as comfortable classrooms, well-equipped labs, spacious reading halls and well-stocked library are available. Wi-Fi internet connectivity is also available at the entire college campus.
The campus also houses the school and college of nursing, institute of physiotherapy, staff quarters, cafeteria, pharmacy, central lab, animal house, ATM and a post-mortem block.
Faculty and Attendance
The faculty at this college is excellent. Practical sessions are usually conducted by PG students and they also take a few theory classes for final years.
Students are expected to have a minimum of 75% attendance. However, only some departments strictly follow this rule. Also, all students are supposed to strictly wear formal clothes while they are on campus.
Crowd and Hangouts
There is almost equal number of north Indian and south Indian students on campus. Also, girl boy ratio is nearly 11. Overall, the crowd is balanced. Students study hard for exams but they don t forget to get their fair share of fun when the time is right.
The college canteen is called Green Leaf Restaurant, which is a common hangout for both students and patients. There is also a Cuppa which serves decent snacks and coffee.
